Main thing is not to let them escape into your local pond.

They are now banned in SA

And perhaps you should visit some of the pet keeping forums for advice on feeding etc

has anyone got any web addresses for these?

I do!

www.kingsnake.com has one of the more active herp pet forums at:

http://forums.kingsnake.com/

They have many sub-forums for different species including a red-ear slider/terrapin forum:

http://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=32

We seem to get quite a few pet-related posts here from time to time, so while I am at it, another good site, this time for amphibian enthusiasts, is  www.Caudata.org and their forums:

http://www.caudata.org/forum/cgi-bin/discus.cgi

It concentrates on newts and salamanders (obviously) but has an anuran section and loads of useful info on tank set-ups and feeding that apply to all amphibians.

I know this isn't a pet forum, but it's nice to be able to send people where they can get good information on captive care.

Livefoods (www.livefoods.co.uk) has a very active forum which may be able to help.
